Grape seed oil, like coconut oil, is growing in popularity due to the variety of health benefits it provides both humans and pets! The presence of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), Vitamin E and other natural plant compounds help make grape seed oil a powerhouse for promoting healthy skin, weight and digestion.

A byproduct of winemaking, grape seed oil is an edible oil extracted from the seeds of grapes through cold pressing. After wine is made by pressing grapes, grape seeds are left behind. Grape seed oil is then extracted from these leftover grape seeds. Though grape skin and pulp have been known to be toxic to animals, grape seeds are completely safe! Grape seed oil is perfect for helping pets with their dry, irritated skin as well as digestive systems. Find out how below!

Skin

Grape seed oils assist in several different skin conditions – especially in rough, dry or cracked areas on your pet’s skin. This is because fixed oils, like grape seed oil, are used for dilution and provide a lubricant high vitamin E and A content. It also contains antioxidant properties which helps to lock in moisture. Symptoms of eczema, psoriasis and allergic reactions and rashes can be reduced by the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant aspects, while simultaneously stimulating the growth of new cells and protecting the skin from infections!

Digestive System

In addition to its benefits with skin conditions, grape seed oil can also aid the digestive system! Beneficial results were found from a study that tested the healing effects of grape seed oil on animals suffering from ulcerative colitis, a disease that affects the large intestine. The results concluded that grape seed oil contains antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that were proven to aid the ulcerative colitis in the animals. In other words, if your pet is suffering from some digestive issues, try giving them grape seed oil and you’re likely to see positive outcomes!

The Bottom Line

Implementing grape seed oil into your pet’s everyday routine is yet another step you can take toward a happier, healthier pet. The benefits of grape seed oil far exceed the few ones we discussed here, which is why we proudly list it as one of the ingredients in Coconut Quills!
